How do I know what kind of video cards my computer will support?

Currently I have a GeForce FX 5200 with 128 MB memory, 8X AGP, with S-Video and DVI out that came with my system. Will I be able to upgrade to another GeForce video card without any problems?|||As long as it's AGP.|||You can get another video card, as long as it's AGP. The fastest AGP card on the market Right now is the ATI Radeon 1950 . It's just a hair faster than the Nvidia 7900 GS. Which is also available in AGP. Expect to spend about $150. Either one is much, much faster than the FX 5200.

I have a NVIDIA video card. I want to use both the RCA Tv-Out and the VGA out simoultaneusely. Thanks?

I want to give out of my video board both on the VGA (for a videoprojector) and the RCA (for TV) - in the same time, and of course on my other DVI-D which I use for my monitor. So, three displays to use for "Tv-out" the same time.

I know that this is not theoretically possible, but are there any tweaks or tricks I can do to the NVIDIA software drivers? I have a GeForce 6200 AGP video board.|||It's highly unlikely that this is possible. Each output method uses differen refresh rates and timings, as well as resolutions. Your card cannot process all of them to successfully output a decent picture, if any at all.|||I have an NVIDIA also from my book you can only show 2 screens at a time, you will need to use the VGA and the DVI-D. I do not know how to setup a PC to use three monitors

What's a good, cheap graphics / video card? I want to run my pc through my plasma screen. Under $50 maybe?

I am willing to get a used card, and really don't want to spend very much but it needs to be able to power my tv with a dvi input. There are so many cards out there, and it is very confusing with all the specs. I know I have an agp socket, but not a pci express.|||With a spending limit of $50 or less, you aren't going to have alot of options, obviously you really only need look to make sure it is an AGP slot card and offers a DVI output. Here is a link to a Geforce 6200 series 256mg that fills the bill and is brand new not used: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/… . I recommend this one because it sells for under $50 new, it is an AGP card, it offers a DVI output, and is manufactured by XFX which means it has a lifetime warranty should anything go wrong with the card.

Is my video card bad or just acting up?

I believe my video card is now shot (died all of a sudden). I have a ATI AIW 7500 AGP video card in my PC (no on board or other video cards in the computer). The monitor status light goes to green, knowing that something is connected but no image appears. I have tried the following:

1) Hooked up my laptop to the monitor. Monitor works fine.

2) Tried resetting the monitor (Acer LCD). Same symptoms.

3) Tried entering the BIOS, but no display comes up. (No RAM check, IDE list, but I can tell from experience that the system is in the BIOS menu)

4) Tried unplugging the monitor cables and re-tightening them

5) Tried removing the video card and reseating.

6) Tried entering safe mode but I couldn't tell if I blindly selected the correct option.

The computer itself is fairly old. The video card has a DVI out which I need to use the RGA adapter that came with the card on, which imo has always put a lot of weight on the end of the video card...maybe the cause? Any help is great|||It sounds like the card's gone to me.

You've already done some very good troubleshooting steps and verified that the monitor's ok.

That card must be at about 3 years old by now which is a 'fairly' good run for a Video Card.

Are there any extra beeps at start up, when a computer boots up it performs a POST (Power On Self Test) and usually reports any issues with a series of beeps. Have you noticed any unusual noises at start up?

The only way to really test if it's the card that's gone is to try a Video Card that is known to work in there an see what happens.

You might be able to 'borrow' a friend's AGP card for testing if you can. Other than that you might have to take it to a local technician for further assistance.

Hope this helps you out! Good luck getting it sorted

~®|||Diagnosing your problem is a little tricky. Your video card is not necessarily bad. It could be your harddrive that is causing the problem. You may have bad boot sectors.

First, if you have onboard video remove the AGP card and install your monitor on the onboard display. If you dont have onboard video remove that drive and have someone do a backup for you.

Assuming that someone has backed up your data try using another hard drive, possible from an old junk computer. If your hard drive is the problem, you should be able to boot from the drive taken from the junk computer. Regardless whether or not an operating system is on the junk drive you will be able to use it. If it has an old operating system you should be able to boot into it. If it does not, you will get an error message on your screen. Either way you will know whether or not the video card or your present hard drive is faulty.|||the definitive way would be to temporarily put a replacement card in and see if that one works.

who can you borrow an AGP video card from?

***

you can also use your laptop to access the ATI website for troubleshooting tips.

GL|||Well yes you have just listed telltale symtoms of a broken video card. Pull it out and smell it. If it smells like gunpowder then take it out. If you leave your card in it may create pc damage. Get a new one now!

Need Help? Mail me at ty90012@gmail.com|||Try disconnecting the video card and re installing it. It may just be that it is not seated correctly. Also you might want to check if it is a PCI or AGP card. Some computers support one but not the other. Also make sure if your card needs extra power that you have connections to it. Most dont but some of the newer ones need some extra juice.

Does this video card work for Windows vista aero? XFX GeForce 6200 256 MB DDR2 AGP Video Card w/TV, DVI?

http://www.amazon.com/XFX-GeForce-6200-DDR2-Video/dp/B000CQ73PW/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1195321033&sr=1-1

How can you tell?|||The graphics card requirements for Vista versions above Vista Basic are:

Support for DirectX 9 graphics with:

* WDDM Driver

* 128 MB of graphics memory (minimum)

* Pixel Shader 2.0 in hardware

* 32 bits per pixel

As long as you don't need DirectX 10 support, that card will work, since the requirements for Aero are

* WDDM driver

* Pixel Shader 2.0

* 32 bits per pixel

* Adequate graphics memory

o 64 MB of graphics memory to support a single monitor at a resolution lower than 1,310,720 pixels

o 128 MB of graphics memory to support a single monitor at resolutions from 1,310,720 to 2,304,000 pixels

o 256 MB of graphics memory to support a single monitor at a resolution higher than 2,304,000 pixels

and that card supports DX9 and 32 bit color, has 256MB graphics memory.|||normally it will say on the box if it compatible. From the sounds of it should work just fine.|||No.Not work with vista.................|||Hi, thats weird I have the same card and mine is 512 mb. It is compatible though. You can check by looking at the box as it should be made for DirectX 9.0c minimum and have shader model 3.0. Also they even have a Vista enabled sticker on them. I hope I helped.

Good Luck and take care!

Can I run dual monitors on my PC with one video card that has VGA and DVI output?

I just bought a new monitor and I am trying to extend my desktop across them both. I currently have an ATI 9700 AGP gfx card and tried installing a second card (an old Voodoo3 PCI) and running each monitor on its own card. I am having trouble with that, so now I am just considering buying a new card (Leadtek WinFast A7600GT probably) in hopes that it will solve my problems.

I just want to make sure I can run the dual monitors off that new card if I do purchase it.

Or if anybody has any recommendations on making the cards that I have now work? Computer recognizes them both, sets the AGP ATI card as primary and works on one monitor. But whenever I go to settings in my display controls and try to enable the 2nd monitor on the voodoo3, my computer freezes and crashes.|||The 7600GT will have dual monitor support.

My guess is that the old drivers for the Vodoo 3 are causing the crash.

I didn't know anyone still had one of the Vodoo 3's. :)|||YES and it is wonderful!!!, the only problem is that you have to buy an adapter (DVI to VGA) for a monitor if it only has VGA.

Will this AGP video card work in my computer?

i found a AGP on ebay

my computer is a dell optiplex 240 will this knew card work if i switched it with my current AGP card

|||I don't think that particular card will. Assuming the picture is correct, it only has the one notch, meaning it's not a 1.5V card. Your computer's service manual shows a 4x AGP card as an example, with two notches (1.5V). The card shouldn't fit into the slot, therefore it won't work.

What is the best AGP video card?

I can't afford to go PCI-E (don't have the $$ for a MOBO/CPU/RAM). I don't do much hardcore gaming (most of my games are 4 years or older). I'm looking at a pricerange of under $150. I'm looking to buy an LCD monitor (finally), but my videocard doesn't have a DVI output.|||gainward 7800gs bliss 512, fastest agp card ever made, you can get them on ebay now for around £70.|||any of the ati or geforce cards will be suitable. They are all pretty good.|||In my opinion, its the AMD 3850, but it is well out of your price range. Since AGP is an old technology, it cost more to produce since the parts are harder to find and not so easily obtainable. So in all reality, you would be paying more for an AGP card that will need to be replaced in the near future (I am assuming when you get you next computer with that special PCIe slot). You can get a cheap Intel mobo/CPU combo, and save yourself some money on a decent PCIe card. This combination will also give you more time before you have to upgrade due to all the new hardware and software demands.

ORRRR you can just save yourself all the money and purchase this....

http://www.buy.com/prod/micro-connectors…

This will allow you to use your VGA-output card with your new DVI-I interface LCD monitor... cheapest and most economical decision for you... I mean why put more money into an older technology. Just save up your coin for when you're ready for a new computer!|||ati x1950

Geforce 7600 agp dvi to hdmi video display problem?

i connected my new geforce dvi card to my 27inch olevia lcd tv monitor. i used a dvt to hdmi cable. ive got ok graphics on the monitor w/the right native resolution. but when im displaying text, the colors of the text are black and blueish some letters are nice black and some letters are sort of bluish. it seems that the vga looked better than dvi on this tv monitor. is this possible? any suggestions?|||the same thing happened to me. The good: Dominating performance in current-generation games; catches up to ATI on current-gen image quality; first card out with support for DirectX10 and next-gen gaming features; amazing value proposition.

The bad: Will likely require you to beef up your power supply in SLI mode.

The bottom line: This one is easy. Nvidia's GeForce 8800 GTX not only beats ATI to market with its next-gen 3D graphics hardware, it also eliminates ATI's image-quality advantage in current-generation titles. Throw in its sheer horsepower, and Nvidia gives the high-end enthusiast every reason to make this purchase.

XFX GeForce 8800 GTS

The good: Strong performance on 3D resolutions up to 1,920x1,280; accessible $300 price tag; HDCP compliance and flawless HD video output; next-gen graphics support.

The bad: Windows Vista software drivers are not fully cooked; the combination of a double-wide card and a lower price might be a rude surprise for some buyers; AMD's forthcoming next-gen ATI cards remain an unknown quantity.

The bottom line: No other 3D graphics card comes close to this bang for the buck, making the 320MB XFX GeForce 8800 GTS mostly an easy decision if you need a midrange upgrade. Nvidia still has to polish off its Vista software, and the sooner-or-later arrival of competing cards muddies the waters a bit, but if you need a midprice graphics card today, this should be your pick.|||It is not an awesome graphics card but definitely BETTER than integrated graphics. Also for many games, it is not just enough to meet minimum system requirement. Minimum also translates to SLOW and UNEXCITING.

Will adding a "DVI out" video card to my computer make the picture on my 50' HD LCD TV sharper?

I have my computer hooked up to my TV so I can watch MPG's and other computer formatted files on the big screen. At present, I have a N-vidia 128 MB AGP8x video card with VGA and S-video out. The computer is hooked to TV using S-video cable. I have a wireless keyboard and mouse so I can sit on the couch and use the computer. When watching Downloaded movies and such on the big screen, everything is fine. But....when I try to check e mail, etc., the picture is a little blurry and Text is difficult to read. Will replacing my computer's video card to one with 128 MB AGP "DVI out" and DVI cord(my TV has "DVI in") make the TV picture as sharp as that on my 17" computer monitor? More specific, will the text and e mails suddenly appear on the 50" big screen just as sharp as they do on my traditional 17" flat screen computer monitor? BTW....my motherboard does not have PCI express slot and does not appear to be able to handle a 256 MB AGP video card. My TV is capable of 1080 dpi HD.|||Component video will give you the best picture, but DVI is better than S-Video in terms of quality.|||If your TV supports 1920x1080 through the DVI, you'll have a very nice picture. Although, it might seem a little dark or blurry at such a large size. Also, interlaced displays don't handle text quite as well, so don't get your hopes too high. Before running out and buying a new video card, make sure your TV will support that resolution through the DVI interface.

Graphic card crashing, suspecting if dvi-to-vga adapter is causing the problem or not...?

i have a graphic card HIS 3650 agp with have 2 dvi port and s-video port. it start crashing very often recently. so, i am suspecting if the dvi-vga adapter is causing the problem, since dvi only support 60hz refresh rate while i set my computer refresh rate to 75hz. cant set my refresh lower than that since i am using a crt monitor which will flicker if set below 75hz. can anyone tell me???|||The adapter and the issue you mention is not likely to be the problem. When you use a DVI-VGA adapter, then you're not using the DVI digital port; you're using an analog port just as if it were a regular VGA plug. It won't be limited to DVI specs.

If it's crashing, then you need to investigate possible causes such as heat (is the fan on it working okay?), driver or OS issues (try looking for updates), or other issues. You might try booting to a Live Linux CD and using that for a bit to rule out any hardware issues.

If you just want a bigger, clearer monitor for your PC, any TFT monitor with a DVI port looks ten times better than using VGA.

Dell do the best - but you pay for it!|||If you want to get a LCD monitor, then most of them do not have HDMI ports, but VGA, or VGA and DVI-D. Both of these will work with the DVI-I port on your video card, you will just need a DVI-A to VGA adapter if you are going to use a VGA cable.

If you want to connect your computer to a LCD TV with HDMI ports, then it should still work. HDMI is the same signals as DVI-D but has the option of HDCP encryption. Since the encryption is enabled from the source that should not be a problem - unless you put a HD-DVD or Blu-Ray drive into your system. What you will need is a DVI-D to HDMI cable.

LCD PC monitors tend to have higher resolution than the same size LCD TV.

Can someone recomend a AGP graphics card suitable for my computer?

My motherboard is a ASRock K7S41GX with an AGP, i want a cheapish graphics card that has DVI connection and i can play Black and White 2 on. (at the moment my video card is lacking something which means i cannot play it)

Has anyone got any tips or suggestions?

PS I'm based in the uk|||use a nvida graphics card|||For AGP cards i would suggest a 6800 series nvidia geforce card. They come in various forms ie, the gt version at the best. Theyve been out a while but still a good card and can perform most of the graphics needed for todays games. Try googling it and youll see the differnt types of these 6800 range. The 7800 and upward i think only came out in PCI format so this is one of the best youll get for AGP. Im not an expert mind you just in the looking i did around a while ago when i bought my 7800's for SLI use|||I'd recommend whatever here (http://www.cclonline.com/product-categories.asp?category_id=125 ) is within your price range. How do I install this certain video card with my HP Pavilion a250y?

The computer I'm currently using is the HP Pavilion a250y and it runs Windows XP. The video card that I'd like to install is an Nvidia GeForce 6600GT 128 MB DDR3 Dual DVI TV. I've checked the specs for my computer and it supports AGP video cards but I'm not quite sure if that's the type of video card that I have. Help a mildly tech-savvy gal out to install this please? Thanks in advance.|||I'm pretty sure that it is a AGP card but to be sure you can just check online or see if the edge matches up to the slot. detailed instructions to intall video cards can be found in the box that comes with the card or in the computers manual under installing expansion cards.

Can PCIe and AGP video cards run simultaneously?

I have a Dell P4 system with 3Gb ram running XP 32bit. The system has 1 AGP, 1 PCIe and 3 PCI slots. I have three lcd screens but the one hooked to the PCI card is not as sharp as the other two connected to my dual DVI PCIe card. I want to have a more similar quality image across all three.

Thanks in advance for any help.|||They wont. You would need a diff mobo with dual pcie slots, and run dual cards in sli, to get that resolution on three screens.|||Generally speaking, NO. Most motherboards will generally only output video to one card at a time (unless you are running SLI). This is controlled by the BIOS. Also, I have never seen a board that has both PCIe and AGP slots.|||AH, no different formats.|||I hope your not talking about running such a setup in sli .But I,m pretty sure your not. My answer is go into the bios setup and see if both slots can be enabled.. and repost the question along with a model like dimension XXXx or whatever it is you have.

I'd personally like to see the boards layout on dells site before committing to an answer...

Will this video card work for Call of Duty 4 on pc? XFX GeForce 6200 256MB AGP 8x Video Card ( DVI VGA TV-Ou?

Is it worth buying a new video card to use DVI cables instead of VGA?

I have a AMD 2500+ system with AGP, a GeForce FX5200 card and a 2048x1152 23" LCD Dell monitor.

The FX5200 doesn't support this high resolution through DVI, so I have to use VGA.

Is it worth $60-70 to get a new video card in order to have a card that can support this resolution in DVI?

I don't play video games much anymore so that's not a huge issue.|||you wont notice the difference unless you watch high resolution movies or play video games. I have a 9800GTX+ that has 2 DVI ports, one of which is converted for vga, and the difference is only noticeably when I start playing some games, but from those specs I don't think you plan on doing that so its not worth the $60-70 upgrade|||The difference between DVI and VGA is not too much, certainly not the $60-70 difference. But if you're looking for more graphics power, then it would be worth the upgrade|||what do you use it for? I would get one nicer than that, well I have a GTX 260 and I am very impressed. Great price - quality it supports all the way up to 2500x1650 or something like that.|||The main point about DVI is that it has great quality and doesn't get the analog signal noise that VGA does. However, since display cables are typically short, you won't see a difference. Other than that, DVI hookups into LCDs don't require signal adjusting (like horizontal/vertical position, stretching, etc.)

Should I get an AGP or PCI video card?

I had to open up my old computer because of a noisy fan and noticed the fan on my PNY Verto GeForce 5200 is not spinning. I do have a fan on the side of the case pointed pretty close to the video card, so this may be enough to keep it cool. I haven't had any noticeable graphics problems, so I might not buy a new card.

But if I do need to buy a new card, should I go with AGP or PCI? From what I'm reading, I should stay away from 64-bit cards. I'd like to have both DVI and VGA output as I may upgrade the monitor later on. I don't really use this computer (I have a MacBook) so I don't need a power house (and I don't want to spend a lot of $$) but I want something decent. Newegg has a Nvidia 5200 and 5500 for about the same price. I'm assuming I should go with a 5500, but should I do PCI or AGP (if I get to choose).

I might be upgrading this computer soon and will move the insides to another case in another room that rarely gets used.|||For everyday business use like word processing, e-mail, looking at photos, browsing the web etc it doesn't matter. Any video card can handle that.

But for movies or any gaming at all (even 7-8 year old titles) you'd want AGP. The PCI bus is just ridiculously slow by comparison. By the way, both AGP and PCI are obsolete now. PCI-Express is the current industry-standard interface for video cards.

There isn't any appreciable difference between the GeForce FX5200 and FX5500, both were ok years ago, but crap nowadays. If gaming isn't a concern for this machine, just get a PCI card... 64-bit is fine for those. A 128-bit PCI card costing $75 is still vastly inferior to a $40 AGP or PCI-Express card.

The one advantage of PCI- you can transfer a PCI card to another machine (almost every motherboard has PCI slots, even current ones) whereas AGP video cards can only be used on AGP motherboards.

If you decide to replace your old card, I'd recommend a GeForce 6200, which is available in both AGP and PCI- it's a nice cheap card for older systems.

The Radeon X1550 is another decent PCI card, but it costs about $70 (which is way too much for any PCI card) compared to $45 for the 6200.

Can you plug a NVIDIA P117 AGP 64MB DVI Video Card into a PEX16_1 slot?

no a agp card will only fit in a agp port and is quite different than PEX16 slot

Can someone recommend an AGP 4x video card that can display 1440x900 (Prefer one with DVi out also)? Thanks?

Would a ATI Radeon X1300 Pro / 256MB GDDR2 / AGP 8x / DVI / VGA / Video Card work with an Inspiron 531s?

I would like to know if and ATI Radeon X1300 Pro / 256MB GDDR2 / AGP 8x / DVI / VGA / TV Out / Video Card would work with and Inspiron 531s - AMD Athlon 64 x2 Dual Core Processor 4000+ 2.10GHz processor, 1Gb of ram, and Windows Vista 32bit operating system? I would like to know before i purchase it. Thank you!|||Nope! The 531 has the Nvidia chipset that supports PCIe graphics, NOT AGP. So get a PCIe card. Some options:

Cheap= Geforce 8400GS, 8500GT, ATI HD2600 Pro

Better= Geforce 9500GT, ATI HD4670

Replace existing AGP, or add PCI Graphics Card?

I have 4 year old Sony Viao "PCV-RX670", with 1GB memory. I am getting a new 20" LCD high res monitor. Should I attempt to replace the existing AGP video card (nVIDIA RIVA TNT Model 64) OR should I just install a good PCI card in an open PCI slot. Both will need DVI output interface. Thx, P|||I would definetely go AGP. PCI is mainly used for extra components, it wasn't designed to handle graphics especially with a High-Resolution Monitor. If you go to www.tigerdirect.com then you can get a really good AGP card deal with Dual DVI and S-Video, or VGA and DVI plus S-Video. I have listed some good AGP cards with DVI ports below. Good Luck! Note: Top of list = low end model, Bottom of list = High End Model I recommend the 3rd card on the list (Nvidia XFX GeForce 7600GT for high end or the Radeon 9550 for low end)|||I haven't looked at graphics cards very recently but I ..wait...you don't have PCI E.

Go agp. Much faster and specifially designed for a video card.|||No need to tie up a pci slot stick with the agp it won't make a difference in performance|||If you can still find AGP display card on the market, then you should consider upgrading to a better AGP graphic card, with at least 256MB ram on the grpahic card itself.

Most of newer graphic card (on AGP) do have DVI output on the card.

Good luck, purchasing your new AGP graphic card!|||On paper, AGP cards blow away PCI video cards.

However, on benchmarks the difference between two identical PCI and AGP cards is nonexistent. AGP turned out to be a bit of a fraud.

Enter PCI-E. If your computer has PCI-E slots, use them. However, if you are still using a Riva TNT video card, you undoubtedly do not have a PCI-E slot.

I would recommend getting a different AGP card because the one you have is ancient, and it's not like you're going to use it anymore after you upgrade.|||AGP is faster than PCI, so go with AGP, note: AGP stands for Accelerated Graphics Port).

Some places should still sell AGP cards with DVI out. There are many types of AGP 1x 2x 4x 8x, 8x cards are the only ones that support DVI and the only ones that still sell|||You shouldn't add a PCI graphic card as it is much slower than AGP. As far as i can think of you should have meant PCI-Express, and if you have PCI-Express you can not have an AGP slot and vise verse. So if you have AGP go fore AGP cards but if you have "PCI-Express"(not PCI) go for that(I don't think you have it as your computer is fairly old for PCI-Express). Unfortunately due to the speed of AGP I don't think you can get a high-end graphic card (DirectX 10) but you will be able to get very good ones(ATI X1950 or Nvidia 7950).

Do you think I could run this video card on a 200 watt power supply and does it have a vista driver?

http://cgi.ebay.com/Asus-GeForce-FX5200-…|||Well, whether or not you can run that card on a 200 watt power supply depends on more than the card, it depends on what you have installed in the computer already. Each device uses a certain amount of power.

So if you had a computer with just a motherboard, 1 stick of ram, a CPU, Video card, hard drive and optical drive, then likely it would be just fine.

But if it was in a computer with 4 sticks of ram, a CPU, 3 hard drives, 1 optical drive, a network card, a sound card, a USB expansion card; then it would not be able to run.

But, you do not want that video card anyhow. The FX5200 was a terrible card in 1997, and will not even be sufficient for running flash applications, witch is what most websites are based on these days.

What video card is better?

My brothers computer currently has NVIDIA GeForce2 MX/MX 400 would a ATI RAGE 128 PRO 32MB AGP card be better?

or ATI x600 SE 128mb PCIE RD W/DVI ( but i dont think this card would fit into the computer because it is a older computer he uses for homework and video games sometimes)

Thanks for help.|||The X600SE is a PCIExpress 16x video card. It will NOT work in your brother's computer, which only has an AGP slot, not PCIExpress. The two slot types are UTTERLY INCOMPATIBLE.

And no, the Rage 128 Pro isn't much of an upgrade over the GF2. I wouldn't bother. He would be better off saving that money for a more up-to-date computer equipped with PCIExpress.|||it is better getting a computer with PCI express, (all new computers) as even with integrated graphics, they obliterate the Geforce2 and any competitors. I recommend waiting for a new AMD Fusion PC or an Intel Sandy Bridge pc which are coming out slowly during the next year.

Can I use DVI instead of AGP?

I ordered a New Graphics video card that fits inside my computer its just that when I ordered it I thought it would have the blue plug-in part that my monitor plugs into. The new graphics card doesn't have the blue plug in to plug the monitor into. I think what I need is a DVI cord. Is this correct? I have a slot in my monitor that looks alot like the one on my graphics card. Will i see my desktop displayed on my computer monitor if i get the DVI cord?|||Yes, that is correct. If the slots look the same, you definitely have DVI. You can purchase a cable for a pretty reasonable price at the usual stores...Wal-mart has one for $13.88. I'm sure online retailers like newegg or tigerdirect would be able to beat that.

And yes, your desktop will be displayed correctly. Just make sure to install the graphics card and drivers before making the switch, otherwise you will not see anything. Gotta have the drivers to run. ;)|||Blue is VGA, white is DVI. So as long as your computer and monitor both have the same color/type, you'll be fine as long as you have the correct cord.

What should i look for in a video card 512mb or the number like 7800 on a geforce card?

my example is

EVGA GeForce 7800 GS CO / 256MB GDDR3 / AGP 8x / DVI / VGA / TV Out / Video Card ($149)

EVGA GeForce 7600 GT Superclocked / 512MB DDR2 / AGP 8x / DVI / VGA / HDTV / Video Card ($186)

as you can see the first one has 256mb but 7800

but the second one has 512mb with 7600

i just can't decide one which is better the higher mb or the numbers of 7800 or 7600

plz tell me which i should look for mb or number and yea thanks alot|||Model number for sure--mostly.

Deciphering Nvidia's numbers isn't that tough:

Take 7600 vs 7800

The first number : 7 means it uses a 7th generation chip

The second number : 6 or 8 is its place in the lineup. a "1" means onboard and super slow. A 2-4 means low end card. A 5-6 means okay for casual gaming. An 8-9 means high end card for more serious gamers.

The third number is usually a '0' or '5' with 0 meaning 1st revision and a '5' refering to an update (usually)

The fourth number is always a '0' to make the number look bigger I suppose.

The GS or GT is how fast it is clocked in its group. A 7600gs is clocked slower than a 7600GT, but a 7800 is still a faster card.

The amount of memory on the card is how much the card can store to process. More memory can determine things like maximum resolution or if a game can run (some games need more memory on the card--never seen one need more than 256mb though). However, it usually doesn't make a huge difference in the speed of a card.

Last thing to look at is the DDR2 vs DDR3. DDR3 is faster for the video card to access so it can process information from it faster. If choosing between a 7800GS with DDR3 and a 7600GT with DDR2 it is a pretty obvious choice to me--

the 7800GS is a faster video card and it has faster memory as well so it should nicely outperform the 7600GT. If the 7600GT was less expensive it would still perform nicely though.|||MB that's for sure but it really has to do with memory one is ddr2 and the other is just newer and 1/2 the memory but is a Gddr3 which is I'm sure faster then ddr2 but how much faster I can't answer that one. Try one return it and try the other, see what one performs better. I would personally go with the higher MB. Not to mention the HDTV ability if that matters to you.

Currently have EVGA GeForce FX5500 AGP card. Will BFG GeForce 6200 oc provide a better image in photo aps?

I do not play any video games. Will the GeForce 6200 oc AGP 256mb card provide any improvement in image quality in graphics aplications like MS Photo Imager and Adobe Photo Shop over my existing EVGA GeForce FX5500 AGP 128mb card? Also, can I expect any difference in desk top image quality (ie. wallpaper images, MS Office applications, etc.). The only video of any concern would be mpeg playback - could I expect any improvement there? I am running Win98 SE on an ASUS P4B533 MoBo with an Intel P4 2.4 ghz processor and 512 mb of memory. Monitor is an NEC MultiSync 1940WCXM LCD running at it's native resolution of 1440x900 connected to video card via DVI interface.|||Wow, you're using a high graphics resolution. I just use 1024x768.

The 6200 can access video memory faster, so it should be faster than your 5500 card.

This means that high resolution videos will play better too, although both the 5500 and 6200 chips have built-in MPEG video decoding. NVIDIA also sells their own DVD/MPEG video decoders which are optimized for their graphics chips.

http://www.nvidia.com/object/dvd_decoder…

As for better picture quality, well you'll have to check out NVIDIA's web site to see which resolutions are supported on the 6200. Keep in mind that you're also limited by your monitor's maximum graphics resolution too.

The only real factor which will affect the quality of your pictures would be the graphics resolution. (Every video card has their own colour settings.)

Make sure that the video card that you get has the 128-bit memory interface. Some of the lower-priced 6200-based video cards use the 64-bit memory interface. The 6200 chips are kind of old now, so unless you're on a tight budget, you might want to look at a more recent NVIDIA or ATI product.

P.S.

I have an old 5200FX NVIDIA card and a 2.4 Ghz P4, and I can watch 720x480 videos just fine. I also have no problems with watching TV with my TV capture card.

Unless you want to watch videos with a higher resolution, then I don't see how you can have any problems with watching MPEG movies with what you have now.|||Nope.

You would not notice a difference with photo quality and probably none with Mpeg playback.

Any video card can display 2D images pretty much the same as any other card.

How do I install my new Radeon HD AGP 3850 Video Card?

I already removed my old card from the AGP slot in my desktop. I had to move my sound card PCI down a slot, but changed nothing else. I put the card in, and connected the DVI port/ the other port with a DVI female end to my monitor, and the system sound like it booted a little bit, but I see nothing on the screen.

I tried connecting to onboard video by plugging into the computer's VGA slot. No dice either way, nothing on the monitor.

Should I try something else or just put the old card back in?|||1. try to disable the onboard card from the BIOS.

2. double check your monitor to assure it is looking for the digital signal.

3. reseat your card.

4 try a regular 15 pin analog cable.|||So I didn't install the drivers for the new card before I put it in, and I tried putting the old card back in, but since I uninstalled the drivers for that, it doesn't work either. Any ideas? I tried going with onboard VGA, but that also gave me no image, and I need to access the BIOS to change it

|||Modern video cards need their own power connection. Did you connect it?

It should at least show something when the computer is turned on, if it doesn't the card may be broken (DOA; Dead On Arrival).

Put the old card back and see if your computer still works properly..

You did unplug the mains when swapping the cards?|||Try entering the BIOS and check to see if the is a setting that selects type of video adapter. You are probably set to AGP, and need to change to PCIe, or PCI depending on which type of card you are attempting to install. To do this you will probably need to reinstall your old card so that you have video to preform this operation.|||1. Video card drivers must be installed BEFORE you install the card.

2. Some LCD monitors when seeing a change in video source will show black screen. Turn off the LCD and then turn it back on.

3. Disable any on-board video devices in the control panel before installing a new external/slotted card.

4. Make sure your power supply can handle the new card.

Changing an AGP video card.?

Okay, im pretty tech/computer savvy, but i have sort of a few questions about this.. my pc is a little older, i have 2.5 gb ram, running windows 7 on it.. a few weeks ago my LCD monitor went on me, im using another one now, and im starting to get the same problem where the monitor is getting no signal from the tower... I cant even run the AVG to the tv and use the pc input anymore, i assume that the video card is shot. the one i have is an Agp 971-0302.. it has 2 AVG outputs question is.. if i switch it, how will i install it if I cant see anything without a monitor? Do i have to change it for the same exact one? also, can I change it for a different AGP card with different types of outputs (dvi, or hdmi + avg)? and if i do this will i have more issues since i cant see the screen?

also, before someone says it might be the memory, i have 2 different sets of memory (as my pc requires pairs) i have tried to use 1 pair at a time and had the same result.. any and all help would be greatly appreciated, but i would like to use the same PC over my laptop... THANK YOU for your help, unless you are one of those people going to say something stupid just to get a yahoo point.|||Windows 7 should install generic drivers for your video card so you can see the screen.|||you can change out your AGP card to any other AGP card and it will work. You wont have the problem of not seeing anything you just put the card in and hook up your monitor and there you go. good luck

Sapphire ATI X1650Pro - 512MB AGP Video Card vs. GIGABYTE ATI Radeon HD4550 512MB DDR3 DVI/HDMI PCI-ExpressVid?

Ok im trying to see which one of these video cards would be best to use on a Hp pavilion 7965 to play world of warcraft.

*Sapphire cost: $66.99 but then i would have to buy a new battery pack 350 watt+ which would cost and extra $30

*GIGABYTE cost : $46.99 , idk what type of Battery pack i would need for Hp pavilion 7965 if you know can you tell me cause if i need a higher battery pack i will get 256MB GIGABYTE nVidia GeForce 6200 Video Card if it can work on my computer if you know answer that too plz :).

So which on do you think i should get for my HP Pavilion 7965?|||You CANNOT use the Radeon HD4550 at all. That card is a PCIExpress video card, and your Pavilion 7965 does NOT have a PCIExpress 16x slot to accomodate it.

The X1650Pro AGP should work in that Pavilion since the 7965 does have an AGP slot, but that is NOT a good choice.

The best and last AGP card ever made is the ATI Radeon HD3850 AGP. If you are going to do an AGP upgrade, that is the card you want. http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductLis…

Hope this helps.

EDITED TO ADD: The X1650 is two generations older than the HD3850. Consequently the X1650 is rather outdated and does not support DirectX10 or HDCP. The HD3850 is relatively recent and has DX10 and HDCP support. It's a no-brainer-- If you are going to upgrade an old AGP system, why not go for the last and best AGP card ever made? If you want anything more powerful, you'd have to buy a whole new PCIExpress system.|||sorry but i just bought one from my friend
